SMEs have been criticised for failing to offer decent work. However, research on AI and decent work has been conducted mainly in large firms. This research aimed to contribute to the body of knowledge by investigating the mediating role of perceived algorithmic fairness in the effects of human–AI collaboration on decent work outcomes in SMEs. The research surveyed 318 SME owners, managers, and employees. The results show that perceived algorithmic fairness mediates the impact of human–AI collaboration on decent work outcomes in SMEs. The study recommends that SMEs reduce algorithmic bias and enhance perceived algorithmic fairness by improving decent work outcomes through human–AI collaboration.
