Valorization of Agro-Industrial Wastewater for Microalgae Cultivation

Abstract

The agro-industry is currently one of the world's largest economic sectors, generating significant wastewater. Using agro-industrial wastewater to grow microalgae is one way to do this. One potential solution to reduce environmental problems associated with wastewater treatment, such as carbon emissions and nutrient pollution, is microalgae-based wastewater treatment systems. In recent years, there has been growing interest in using microalgae to facilitate the economical and effective treatment of agro-industrial wastewater and the sustainable recovery of resources. This chapter of the book will thoroughly analyze the basic principles behind the use of agro-industrial wastewater in microalgae cultivation. This study will also look into the features of agro-industrial wastewater in bioenergy recovery. Finally, this work will provide a concise overview of the future developments in the field of photosynthetic treatment of agro-industrial wastewater.
