The convergence of quantum computing and blockchain technology is a topic of intense interest and investigation. Quantum computing, deeply rooted in the principles of quantum mechanics, holds the key to unlocking remarkable computational power capable of exponentially accelerating the resolution of complex problems compared to classical computers. By leveraging the extraordinary quantum phenomena of superposition and entanglement, quantum computers have emerged with the outstanding ability to perform calculations on an unprecedented scale, presenting transformative opportunities in various fields. Blockchain technology has gained widespread recognition due to its decentralized and transparent nature. Indeed, due to its robust characteristics, blockchain offers a secure and tamper-resistant platform for conducting transactions. Built on a foundation of cryptographic algorithms, blockchain technology assures the integrity and immutability of data within a distributed network, establishing participants’ trust. By leveraging the advantages of both fields, this fusion can address the security challenges of quantum computers. Quantum-resistant cryptographic algorithms can replace vulnerable ones, and quantum computing can enhance the scalability of blockchain, improving transaction throughput and network performance. This paper aims to review the intersection of quantum computing and blockchain technology globally, examining quantum-resistant cryptography algorithms, novel consensus mechanisms, and privacy-enhancing techniques. It explores the challenges, opportunities, and implications of this convergence.
