Towards Synchronous Pedagogical Supervision of Virtualized Practical Training in Digital Universities Through a Sovereign LiveKit-Guacamole Architecture for UN-CHK

Abstract

This paper presents EMeet-Labs, a synchronous training and remote practical supervision platform designed to address the pedagogical and technical constraints of the Université Numérique Cheikh Hamidou Kane (UN-CHK) in Senegal. Facing a student population geographically dispersed across 18 Open Digital Spaces (ENOs) operating on ADSL links of 2 to 4 Mbps, and a significant proportion of whom enroll in networking programs without prior experience with tools such as GNS3, EMeet-Labs integrates a LiveKit SFU cluster and an Apache Guacamole gateway within a sovereign six-layer architecture deployed on the national infrastructure of Diamniadio. The core mechanism of the platform relies on a Guacamole-WebRTC room tunnel enabling the instructor to intervene in real time on the virtual machine of a struggling student, without client-side installation and without interrupting the collective synchronous session. The results validate the technical feasibility and pedagogical relevance of this approach in a bandwidth-constrained environment with controlled technological sovereignty.
