The Role of Nanocarriers in Phytopathogen Management

Abstract

The current approaches to controlling plant diseases rely primarily on agrochemicals that may harm both people and the environment. Nanotechnology can assist in minimizing the adverse effects of pesticides in a sustainable and environmentally friendly way by improving the solubility of pesticides, extending their shelf life, and lowering their toxicity. Similarly, biopesticides are great options for ecologically friendly agriculture. In agriculture, the application of NCs (nanocarriers), or nanoparticles that may encapsulate medications and release them selectively, is a developing field. The active components of biopesticides can be loaded into nanocarriers via encapsulation, entrapment, attachment, or absorption to create nano-biopesticides. Different types of nanocarriers, such as metal oxides, metals, non-metal oxides, carbon, polymers, lipids, etc., are used to make nano-biopesticides and RNAi pesticides. This chapter explores the use of nanocarriers to manage plant pests and deals with existing obstacles and future opportunities.
