Abstract

The neurological disorder with the fastest rate of increase in the world, Parkinson's disease (PD), poses serious management challenges due to its progressive deterioration and debilitating nature, which significantly affects quality of life. The process of creating novel medical treatments, especially for neurodegenerative diseases, is drawn out and includes several testing stages before a medication is authorised for use in a clinic. As the condition worsens, treatment gets more complicated, and it is essential to have objective, straightforward instruments to identify changes in patients' motor status and closely track how they respond to treatment. The available treatment aims to alleviate the symptoms caused by a deficiency of dopamine in the central nervous system, as there is no cure. The therapeutic approaches that are currently available to control the disease's early and advanced phases will be examined in this chapter.
