The Nurses' Knowledge and Attitudes towards the Palliative Care among Patients with Cancer

Abstract

Background: Palliative care aims to improve quality of life by managing pain,attending to psychological needs, and offering social and spiritual support. Despite itsproven benefits, palliative care is still underutilized, especially in low- and middleincomecountries. Objective: To assess Nurses’ knowledge and Attitudes Towards thePalliative Care among patients with Cancer Design: A descriptive research design wasused to conduct the study Settings: The study was carried out at Oncology Departmentsof Al Qabary Hospital In Alexandria.Governorate Subjects: The study sampleencompassed all nurses working at the previously mentioned hospitals (N=100). Tools:One tool was be used to collect necessary data of the study.The Nurses' Knowledge andAttitudes towards The Palliative Care among Patients with Cancer Self-AdministrativeQuestionnaire.. Results: A significant portion of nurses (44%) demonstrated poorknowledge about palliative car. More than half of the nurses (55%) showed a moderateattitude level toward palliative care. Conclusion: The study revealed that many nurseshave inadequate knowledge and only moderate attitudes toward palliative care forcancer patients Recommendations Comprehensive training sessions for p nursesfocused on palliative care principles, pain management, opioid use, andcommunication skills related to end-of-life care.
