Techno-economic-environmental Assessment of Distribution Networks with Integrated PV Systems and D-STATCOMs Under Uncertainty

Abstract

The unpredictability of weather poses a significant challenge for operators of distribution networks, particularly when managing renewable energy sources like photovoltaic systems. Additionally, these systems generate only active power, which limits their potential benefits for distribution networks. To address this, we explore the role of Distribution Static Compensators (D-STATCOMs) in providing reactive power compensation for enhancing the performance of distribution systems under a probabilistic model that considers load demand, pricing, temperature, and solar radiation. Furthermore, a new approach called the Modified Horned Lizard Optimization Algorithm (MHLOA) is applied for optimizing the operation of these networks. The results of this approach demonstrate substantial cost savings, reduced emissions, decreased voltage deviations, and lower active power losses. The effectiveness of this optimizer is justified using the IEEE 33-bus test distribution network and compared with that of other existing optimizers.
