System Dynamics in Road Safety: A Comprehensive Overview with Selected Use-Cases

Abstract

Road safety is a critical concern worldwide, with traffic accidents causing significant loss of life, injuries, and economic costs. Traditional road safety approaches often focus on isolated interventions without adequately considering the complex interactions within the transportation system. System Dynamics (SD) offers a comprehensive framework for understanding and improving road safety by modeling the intricate relationships and feedback loops that influence system behavior over time. This paper provides a comprehensive overview of the application of System Dynamics in road safety, complemented by selected simple use cases to illustrate its effectiveness.
