Sustainability in Textile Industry Using Cyclodextrins To Improve the Properties of Textiles

Abstract

Cyclodextrins are cyclic oligosaccharides with a truncated cone structure, a hydrophilic surface with hydroxyl groups, and a hydrophobic cavity that can combine with different substances to form reversible inclusion complexes. This study provides an overview of the general characteristics of β-cyclodextrin and its uses in the textile sector. Because β-cyclodextrin has so many uses, it is extremely important to the textile industry. The method of β-cyclodextrin attachment to the textile surface is one of the important elements. In this research, many applications of cyclodextrin in the field of dyeing or printing simultaneous with finishing using different materials are reviewed. Cyclodextrins are used to give textiles properties including UV protection, slow release of fragrances, insecticide delivery, and antibacterial properties.
