Study of Alumina Particles as a Sustainable Reinforcement Material for Aluminium Composite Manufacturing

Abstract

Applying reinforcement to based materials is a promising way of improving composite materials in terms of their mechanical, chemical and rheological properties. This study focused on alumina particles as a sustainable reinforcement material for aluminium composite manufacturing. The study reviews current literature that employed alumina particles to improve the characteristics of aluminium alloys—applying different concentration values to investigate the adequate percentage contribution of alumina particles that will best produce a composite of aluminium alloy as the based materials have high corrosion resistance, the required hardness, tensile, and compressive strength. While lightweight has been considered in several studies that cut across the areas of this study. Such as alumina particles as a reinforcement material for composite manufacturing and the effect of alumina particles on aluminium alloy's wear and corrosion properties. Also, the impact of alumina particles on the mechanical properties of aluminium alloys and the casting method for composite materials production was studied. From the findings in the review, the study has suggested some possible solutions that the manufacturers can employ to accurately have a sustainable aluminium composite that will fit in many engineering applications.
