Sliding Mode Control of a Single-Phase Grid-Connected VSI with LCL Filter : Single Sensor Approach for Controlling Current Injection into the Grid

Abstract

To better integrate renewable energy, especially solar photovoltaic, into the grid, voltage source inverters (VSIs) need effective control for sinusoidal current injection with minimal total harmonic distortion. This paper proposes a sliding mode control strategy for VSIs with an LCL filter, using just one current sensor. Tested on a 10-kW system through MATLAB/Simulink, this method streamlines complexity, cuts costs, and maintains dynamic efficiency around 4 ms while preventing capacitor voltage resonance. It ensures the injected current's harmonic content stays below 0. 1 %, improving grid power quality.
