Serological prevalence of human cytomegalovirus among Sudanese breast cancer patients attend National Cancer Institute, Wad Meddani, Gezira State, Sudan (2020)

Abstract

This study aimed to study the prevalence of Human Cytomegalovirus among breast cancer patients in National Cancer Institute, Wad Medani, Gezira State, Sudan (2020). This cross-sectional laboratory-based study conducted at National Cancer Institute, Wad Medani from March to October 2022 to detect Seroprevalence of Human Cytomegalovirus among Breast Cancer patients. A total of 50 patients were included in this study. The distribution of demographic data showed that the age 41 - 60 has high prevalence rate 58%, the stage T2N1M0 has high prevalence rate 70%, and grades II has high prevalence rate 58%. CMV IgG positive in 88% of the cases, while CMV IgG negative in 88% of the cases. The is no significant difference between groups in Estrogen Receptor, Progesterone Receptor and Hormone Estrogen Receptor2. Most of the patients are resident of Khartoum and Gezira state. Comparing the CMV IgG with age, stage and with grade showed no significant correlation (P. Value > 0.05), also comparing CMV IgG with stage showed no significant correlation (P. Value > 0.05) with more positivity in T2N1M0 stage. CMV IgM age, stage and with grade showed no significant correlation (P. Value > 0.05), concluded that: CMV IgG is more common in breast cancer patients more than CMV IgM. CMV IgG & IgM are not affected by age, stage of tumor, grade of tumor and residence. Recommended that: CMV IgG & IgM should be done as routine test for breast cancer patients. To enhance health education about breast cancer and CMV to minimize the risk. More studies with large sample size and advanced technique are recommended.
