Self-Magnetized Wound Rotor Non-Overlapping Winding Synchronous Wind Generator for MPPT Variable DC Grid System

Abstract

This paper proposes and analyses a self-magnetized wound-rotor synchronous wind generator connected via diode rectifiers to a variable DC grid. The wind generators make use of non-overlapping stator windings connected through triple three-phase diode rectifiers to the DC grid. The DC grid voltage is varied according to the maximum power point of the wind turbines. Per-unit and FE analysis was used in the accurate modelling of the proposed wind-generator system to determine the variable DC grid voltage as a function of turbine speed for maximum power point operation. The analysis was done on a 5-MW wind turbine power level and confirmed the feasibility of the proposed system.
