Security Tracking System for Bicycle Rental Services in Nigeria Institutions

Abstract

For short trips, bicycle rental services provide an easy and environmentally beneficial mode of transportation. Internal combustion engine (ICE)-powered vehicles have dramatically increased on the road, which has degraded the environment, increased traffic, and decreased people's quality of life. In order, to mitigate these problems caused by modern transportation, this paper describes the design and realization of a smart bicycle rental service (BRS) to be totally accessible and monitored with improved technology of keypad security and tracking of bicycle for institutions-based Internet of Things (IoTs). Its aim is to allow users to rent bicycles seamlessly and thereby reduce environmental pollution for health and related purposes. The software application includes a separate module that allows the administrator to track all of the users' rental history and information. Another module is designed for the general public which provides a seamless process for renting bicycles to move around on campus. The bicycle rental system has a user-friendly interface. To ensure the security of the bicycles, a tracking device built with a global system for mobile communication (GSM) module and global positioning system (GPS) module linked to an Arduino Uno is integrated with the bicycle rental system. On a digital campus, BRS should provide a more convenient and cost-effective way for students to go around and creating a more environmentally friendly mode of transportation that would boost local economic viability.
