Potential competing interests: No potential competing interests to declare. No conflict of interest I have read this short communication by Enzo Grossi, and I find it very interesting. This is a useful tool that can be used for most infectious diseases. We have had outbreaks of measles, mumps, etc., in our schools. The schools sometimes are far apart; the schools in between may appear to be not affected, but later on, the diseases may spread to the schools in between. This tool can be used to understand the clusters and why some areas are not affected or not easily affected, and whether the clustering, especially in developing countries, can be understood in terms of education level, standards of hygiene, etc., for various areas.
