Ressource Planning and Scheduling for Operating Room Management: Current State and Challenges

Abstract

Operating theatre management is one of the most critical activities in the hospital environment, with a major financial impact due to its high consumption of human and material resources. In this paper, we provide a literature review of recent research dealing with integrated operating room planning and scheduling. We focus on several key points that are considered as a means of classifying recent studies in this field, such as resource constraints, solution methods and objective functions. These points form the outline of our classification of the existing literature. Our objective is to systematically review the research literature concerning operating room assignment and sequencing problems. Perspectives that need to be addressed in the future are identified for further investigation.
