Renewable Energy Integration and Green Hydrogen Prospects in Morocco: A Comprehensive Analysis of Energy Transition Dynamics

Abstract

This paper investigates Morocco's energy transition, focusing on its commitment to renewable energy and the emerging sector of Green Hydrogen. Leveraging geographical advantages such as abundant solar and wind resources, Morocco has positioned itself as a leader in concentrated solar power (CSP) and wind energy production. The study employs a systematic methodology, including a literature review and comprehensive data collection, to analyze Morocco's oil and natural gas reserves, electricity demand trends, and electricity market dynamics. While renewable energy constitutes over 10% of electricity production, Morocco remains dependent on fossil fuels. The paper further explores the potential of Green Hydrogen, examining demand projections and Morocco's National Roadmap for Green Hydrogen (NRGH). The NRGH outlines ambitious plans for green hydrogen production, positioning Morocco as a key player in the global market. The study concludes by highlighting the implications of the findings and recommending a holistic approach for Morocco's transition to a sustainable and low-carbon energy system.
