Relationships Between GSCM, Technological Innovation and Green Performance in North Eastern Nigeria

Abstract

This research examines the correlation between Green Supply Chain Management Practices (GSCMP) practices, Technology Innovation (TECIN), and Green Performance (GP) among the manufacturers and suppliers in the North-Eastern Nigeria due to the growing environmental impacts of investments in the agricultural sector. An explanatory survey design was used and a structured questionnaire with 57 closed ended questions was employed to gather quantitative data from 1,028 firms in the sample which was derived from a stratified random sampling technique. The response rate was 24%, 173 fully completed questionnaires, which primarily targeted SMEs, and the key informants occupied the environmental management position. In addition, the structural model of the study was verified by means of Stone-Geisser’s Q² test, R² values, and boot-strap resampling techniques, showing that GSCM practices have significant positive correlations with TECIN (r = 0. 392, p > 0. 01), and GSCM practices and GP (p > 0. 01; r = 0. 335). In addition, the relationship of the mediation analysis showed that TECIN partially mediates the link between GSCM and GP; thus, while GSCM practices positively influence GP, this effect is even more pronounced when bolstered by TECIN. These findings affirm the fact that to gain a higher GP, both GSCM and TECIN strategies have to be aligned and implemented, hence the need for policies that encourage manufacturing sustainability and technology.
