Protein C Levels in Human Immunodeficiency Virus-Infected Women with and Without Pre-Eclampsia in South Africa

Abstract

Plasma protein C concentrations did not vary significantly according to the presence of pre-eclampsia or HIV status in this cohort. These findings suggest that protein C concentrations were not measurably altered between groups within this study population. However, due to the small sample size in key subgroups, these findings should be considered preliminary and interpreted with caution. Larger, adequately powered studies are required to further investigate potential associations between HIV infection, pre-eclampsia, and anticoagulant pathways during pregnancy.
