Professional competency and moral courage among staff nurses 

Abstract

<title>Abstract</title> <bold>Background:</bold> Nurses must possess professional competency and moral courage to ensure the excellence of care and safety for customers, communicate effectively with other healthcare staff, and promote the establishment of consistent and universal care. <bold>Aim:</bold> This study aimed to investigate the relationship between professional competency and moral courage among staff nurses. <bold>Methods: </bold>A descriptive correlational study design was conducted with 172 staff nurses. The researchers used structured equation modeling. <bold>Results: </bold>This study revealed that more than three-fifths of the studied subjects reported a moderate level of professional competency (followed by a low level), and two-thirds of the studied subjects reported a moderate level of moral courage, followed by a low level). <bold>Conclusion</bold>: This study concluded that the professional competency of staff nurses was positively correlated and significantly correlated with moral courage among nurses (r =.637**, p =0.000). <bold>Trial Registration Number [TRN] </bold>The study protocol was approved by the Research Ethics Committee of the Faculty of Nursing, Ain Shams University (code number: NUR 24.2.129).
