This article applies the Fuzzy TOPSIS method (Technique for Order Préférence by Similarity to Ideal Solution) to rank the 13 wilayas (administrative region) of Mauritania using official data on poverty and inequalities. Following fuzzy normalization and weighting via the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP), Manhattan distances are employed to rank regions based on their proximity to ideal solutions.The results reveal that the regions of Guidimaha, Tagant, and Assaba exhibit closeness scores below 0.3. These areas face compound challenges including recurrent droughts, limited infrastructure, and economic isolation. Their geographical remoteness restricts access to markets and public services, exacerbating multinational poverty cycles and hindering human development progress. Indicating urgent need for targeted policy interventions to address territorial disparities.
