Potential of Moroccan Discarded Sardine

Abstract

The chapter explores the production and application of bioceramics, specifically hydroxyapatite (Hap) derived from Moroccan sardine waste, highlighting its biomimetic resemblance to human bone and its advantageous properties like high bioactivity, cost-effectiveness, and eco-friendliness. The authors emphasize the economic and environmental benefits of utilizing sardine waste for synthesizing natural Hap, considering Morocco's significant sardine production. The estimated economic impact of natural Hap synthesized through the calcination process from sardine waste is significant, aligning with the global trend towards a circular economy and waste management. Indeed, the cash flow of natural Hap extracted from Moroccan sardine waste is valued and estimated at 10,239.2253 million MAD. Expanding research in this field could lead to innovative technologies for waste recycling and enhance collaboration among companies for a more sustainable future and national development.
