Photodynamic therapy combined with chemotherapy represents a novel strategy in multiple myeloma treatment: Nano-Multilayered strategy

Abstract

Photodynamic therapy has a crucial role in cancer treatment, particularly in combination with other chemotherapies. In this work, rose bengal-embedded calcium carbonate has been synthesized to optimize multilayered polymeric nano-capsules for application in photodynamic therapy and cancer imaging. The same nano-capsules carried simultaneously and separately chemotherapy, photosensitizer, and inhibitor as well. The morphology of CaCO3 crystals can be modified by controlling many factors (e.g., concentration, rotation, and pH). The potential therapy was detected by phenotype expression of multiple myeloma cells, which was captured by confocal microscopy.
