Performance evaluation of Tarcha town water supply distribution system in Dawuro zone

Abstract

A complicated water supply and distribution system is necessary to accomplish a number of goals, including environmental and public health requirements, given the growing demand for fresh water and other non-potable purposes. The best-performing systems should offer an adequate, reasonably priced, safe water supply service with minimal water loss and high-quality water that satisfies local, state, federal, and international regulations. The performance assessment of the Tarcha town water supply distribution system was the main objective of this investigation. The system was simulated and examined using both primary and secondary data. The Water Geospatial Engineering Modeling System software was used to model the acquired data after they were entered into a hydraulic simulation program. According to the modelling results, over 83.1% of the pipe velocity is below 0.5 m/s, and over 73% of the network pressure is larger than 70 m. Testing was done on the concentration of hydrogen ions, turbidity, total hardness, temperature, residual free chlorine, iron content, total dissolved solids, and electrical conductivity in the physicochemical water quality. Ethiopian standards and guidelines from the World Health Organization were compared with the laboratory results of the samples.
