ONLINE AND BLENDED LEARNING: IMPLICATIONS FOR LIBRARY AND INFORMATION PROFESSIONALS IN NIGERIA’S EDUCATIONAL CHANGE.

Abstract

Online and blended learning have emerged as transformative forces in global education, significantly shaping Nigeria’s educational landscape. These learning models integrate traditional face-to-face instruction with digital platforms, enhancing accessibility, flexibility, and engagement. However, their adoption in Nigeria faces several challenges, including inadequate digital infrastructure, low digital literacy, and policy gaps. A critical aspect of this transition is the evolving role of library and information professionals, who are expected to facilitate digital access, support information literacy, and manage knowledge dissemination in online and blended learning environments. This study examines the impact of online and blended learning on Nigerian education, evaluates its implications for library and information professionals, identifies key challenges, and proposes strategies for effective integration. Findings suggest that while online and blended learning can bridge educational disparities and promote lifelong learning, their success relies on comprehensive national policies, investment in digital infrastructure, and enhanced training for library and information professionals.
