Angular leaf spot (ALS), induced by Pseudocercospora griseola, represents a significant threat to common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) production, compromising both grain quality and economic viability worldwide. This study aimed to evaluate the prevalence of ALS and determine the predominant biotype in the West Region of Cameroon through the sequencing the 5.8S internal transcribed spacer (ITS) gene. Data demonstrate a widespread distribution of ALS, with incidence and severity ranging from 90% to 100% and 4.5 to 7.38 on a 1–9 disease grading scale, respectively. Disease severity exhibited variation based on bean cultivar, geographical location, and seed phenology. Genomic data unveiled for the first time, the circulation of a highly aggressive Mesoamerican biotype (JX454557.1) in the country. This research shows potential for a straightforward and durable solution for ALS management.
