Numerical Analysis for Microwave Heating of D. opuntiae in Cactus Pear

Abstract

This paper outlines the impact of microwave heating on D. opuntiae and cactus pear. Through the development of their thermal-electromagnetic model, thermal simulations demonstrate that microwave radiation at 2.45GHz can raise the thermal energy of the pest above that of the host plant, and the resulting temperature distribution disparity is discussed. Furthermore, practical experimentation involving a conventional household microwave oven showcase its efficacy in eradicating 100% of adult females D. opuntiae immediately following exposure to 900W for 60 seconds, after 48 hours for 500W, and after 120 hours for 300W, respectively.
