Quality water has been generally accepted as a major requirement for mankind. Water pollution was evaluated and assessed by the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA, 2017) following the Resolution 3/10 to guide and restore water- related ecosystems. World Water Quality Assessment was developed due to this resolution to tackle the issues affecting quality water. Studies has shown that water quality is degrading rapidly due to pollution resulting from urbanization consequences, industrial and agricultural activities, Lack of clean and quality water are major causes for the spread of waterborne diseases in a community. Suspended solid from organic and inorganic matter impact taste and odour to water quality. Every day, garbage disposal such as plastic, paper, aluminum, food, glass, or rubber are constantly influencing the water turbidity. Majorly surface water such as river, lakes. Dam, sea is mostly affected. The growth of algae and other organism in a water are indicates of eutrophication. This research presents the narratives on water quality assessment, and the contemporary challenge. It is expected that this study will impart to the literature on the subject and to improve the water quality towards reduction of the pollutant level.
