Modelling and Simulation of Hybrid Renewable Energy-Based Microgrid System

Abstract

Reliable energy access is vital for development, yet many citizens in Nigeria face electricity shortages that disrupt essential services and impede social and economic progress. This study aims to enhance energy management efficiency, and system reliability for residential customers by integrating a renewable energy-based microgrid system. The optimal configuration of the microgrid system was done using MATLAB/Simulink software. The hybrid system includes a 100kW solar PV system, a 50kW wind turbine system, and a substantial battery bank, all equipped with advanced control mechanisms. The simulation results obtained from MATLAB/Simulink demonstrate the non-linear relationship between solar irradiance and power output in the photovoltaic system. Integrating energy storage and optimization strategies provides a promising solution to Nigeria's power supply challenges, reducing dependence on fossil fuels and fostering a more sustainable energy future with global applicability.
