Misdiagnosis of Metastatic Thymoma Presenting with Deep Vein Thrombosis and Intra-cardiac Thrombus as Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in an Adolescent: A Case Report

A bstract Thymic tumors are very rare in children, and when present, mainly occur in adolescents. Less than 300 pediatric cases have been reported worldwide in literature. There are no reports regarding deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and intra-cardiac clots among the pediatric cases. We report a case of DVT of the right axillary and subclavian veins, with a clot in the right atrium in a 16-year-old male child with thymoma, which was misdiagnosed as non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma on histology but found to be a thymoma on immunohistochemistry. This case report aims to improve awareness regarding DVT and thymomas in children and encourage routine assessment and treatment of DVT for these children for improved outcomes.
