Meandering Dipole Antenna Miniaturization Technique for UHF RFID Band Applications

Abstract

This paper presents a new approach to improving the performance of UHF RFID tag antennas using a miniaturization technique for dipole antennas. Beginning with a standard half-wave dipole antenna with a length of 120 mm, we then apply the meandering technique to reduce its size to 90 mm, while at the same time improving its performance characteristics. Through experimental evaluation in the European UHF RFID band, we demonstrate a $\mathbf{2 5 \%}$ reduction in size and a remarkable improvement in reading distance, from 1.49 meters to 2.28 meters. In addition, the meandering structure shows excellent adaptation, with a reflection coefficient of -40 dB at the resonant frequency of 867 MHz. This innovative approach not only contributes to the miniaturization of UHF RFID tag antennas, but also significantly improves their performance in real-world applications.
