MATLAB Implementation of the Luwa Optimization Algorithm (LOA): Benchmarking on Shifted Schwefel Landscapes

2026Open accessJimma University

Abstract

MATLAB source code for the Luwa Optimization Algorithm (LOA), a population-based metaheuristic inspired by the Luwa age-grade governance system of the Sidama people of southern Ethiopia. This repository contains the LOA implementation (LOA.m), wrapper functions for 14 competitor algorithms (CMA-ES, DE, GA, GWO, HHO, L-SHADE, MVO, PSO, RIME, SA, SCA, SO, WOA, CCO), and benchmark runner scripts for seven experiment groups on standard and shifted Schwefel functions at D ∈ {10, 30, 50, 100}. Companion code for the paper: "Overcoming Spatially Separated Local Optima: The Luwa Optimization Algorithm on Shifted Schwefel Landscapes."
