Load Frequency Control of Single Area Using New Adaptive Controller

Abstract

This paper represents a study of Load Frequency Control (LFC) in a single area power system. This control is also referred to as automatic generation control (AGC). LFC is a scheme to adjust the generation automatically according to load changes to keep the frequency within a specific range and ensure reliable and efficient operation of the power system. The objective of this study is to compare two controllers, the first controller is a classic controller, and the second controller is a new adaptive fractional order controller for the same single area power system under two case studies, the first case study is a system without any renewable energy sources and the second case study is a system with wind generation as disturbances. In each case study, an optimization technique is used to obtain the best fit results for the gains related to every controller used. The simulation is performed using the MATLAB Simulink program and finally, a conclusion is submitted according to the results obtained from the case studies regarding the new controller proving its effectiveness.
