2026Open accessCadi Ayyad University

Abstract

Modern educational technologies generate massive streams of fine-grained interaction data—clicks, dwell time, navigation sequences—commonly referred to as micro-behaviors. These behavioral traces represent a key resource for learning personalization, provided they are exploited in a contextualized, interpretable, and ethically responsible manner. This paper introduces a conceptual framework for the operational exploitation of micro-behaviors, integrating cognitive, metacognitive, affective, and interactional dimensions within an adaptive analytical cycle. Drawing on insights from learning analytics, machine learning, and self-regulated learning theory, the proposed model establishes a closed feedback loop that connects data collection, structuring, interpretation, and adaptive decision-making. The discussion emphasizes the importance of combining Explainable Artificial Intelligence (XAI) and human-in-the-loop supervision to ensure transparency, interpretability, and pedagogical coherence. The conceptual results highlight the value of micro-behaviors as indicators of engagement and cognitive regulation, while identifying new technical and ethical directions for the design of intelligent and responsible learning systems. Ultimately, this research advocates for a human-centered vision of educational AI — not as a replacement for teachers, but as a cognitive partner that enhances reflective, inclusive, and sustainable learning.
