Sustainable procurement enables local governments to tackle climate change, inequity, and economic issues, using their $2 trillion U.S. purchasing power to align with the Sustainable Development Goals. Barriers like awareness gaps, supply chain complexity, and costs limit adoption. This chapter explores how blockchain, AI, and big data enhance municipal procurement, focusing on accountability. A literature review and case studies—Scotland's big data platform, Maryland's AI group, and an EU blockchain pilot—show benefits: 15–20% emissions cuts, $500,000–$10 million savings, and 75–80% trust gains. Policy recommendations advocate digital integration, capacity building, and standardized reporting. Despite secondary data reliance, it offers a roadmap for accountable, sustainable governance.
