INDUSTRY X.0: Technologies, Methods, and Sectoral Transformations

Abstract

Industry X.0 represents a profound transformation in the nature of the industrial sectors whereby it goes beyond the automation-centric paradigms of Industry 4.0 to intelligence, connectivity, and adaptiveness. It harnesses the most essential technologies including AI, IIoT, digital twins, blockchain, edge computing, and advanced cybersecurity to facilitate more intelligent, sustainable, and efficient operations. This paper attempts to survey the academic literature on the theme of Industry X.0 and critically reflects on the key enabling technologies, the sectoral applications, and the gaps of the research. We employ the PRISMA method and VOSviewer-based co-occurrence analysis to explore and synthesize the academic literature from the manufacturing, agrifood, energy, and innovation policy sectors on Industry X.0. The review uncovers great technology gatherings and identifying the conceptual networks between them as well as the tracks of future research including servitization, human-centred approaches integration, and real-time decision-making. Nonetheless, Industry X.0 still has needs in terms of digital maturity and human resistance, and also it has a fragmented implementation strategy, which poses a challenge to its transformation potential. This research thus, provides a more comprehensive view of Industry X.0 and opens up new avenues for researchers, practitioners, and policymakers who are intending to direct the change of this industrial revolution. *CRITICAL: Multi-Criteria Decision Making (MCDM), Large Language Models (LLMs), Digital Twin Networks (DTN), Mobile Edge Computing (MEC), Augmented Reality(AR), Virtual Reality(VR),M2M (Machine-to-Machine)
