In Silico And In Vitro Assessment Of Antiviral Activities Of Two Plant Extracts Against Tobacco Mosaic virus

Abstract

The antiviral activities of extracts prepared from licorice and green tea were evaluated among a number of 55 treatments including control treatments. It was noted that by increasing the dilutions, the concentration of the active substances, which have antiviral activity against TMV, were decreased and number of induced necrotic local lesions were increased. Eleven compounds belonging to licorice and green tea were mined from databases to be effective against human viruses. Docking simulation was performed between these agents and the coated protein of TMV. The highest effective compounds were Glycyrrhetic acid, Liquiritin and EGCG. ADMET studies revealed good overall properties of nine compounds based on pharmacokinetics, physicochemical properties, drug likeness and toxicity profiles. Based on docking energy and mode of interaction these compounds showed antiviral activities against the active site protein of TMV. The antiviral effect may be due to the most effective compounds with the highest affinity namely Glycyrrhetic acid, Liquiritin and Isoliquiritin. Licorice and green tea proved to have antagonistic activities against TMV. As a conclusion, the promising value of our titled extracts and anti TMV agents was obvious from the presence of nine non-toxic compounds in their extracts among their predicted pharmacokinetics and physicochemical properties.
