Faced with uncontrolled urbanization in Kinshasa, digital tools offer significant potential for monitoring land use. In the Kisenso Gare, Dingi-Dingi, and Nsola neighborhoods of the Kisenso municipality, self-urbanization is leading to the degradation of agricultural and vegetated areas. This study aims to demonstrate the value of remote sensing and GIS for tracking spatial changes and NDVI dynamics between 1984 and 2025. The methodology combines observation and experimentation: processing multi-temporal images (Landsat 5, 7, 8, 9, and SAS Planet) using supervised classification (maximum likelihood) and NDVI calculation. The results show a dramatic expansion of built-up areas, increasing from 10 hectares in 1984 to 192 hectares in 2025 - a 19-fold increase. Simultaneously, agricultural land declined from 114 hectares to 37 hectares, and vegetation cover fell from 144 hectares to 39 hectares. The NDVI confirms accelerated urbanization, with Kisenso-Gare emerging as the last ecological stronghold. In conclusion, urban pressure has caused a massive loss of vegetation and agricultural cover, underscoring the urgent need for planning strategies that integrate natural area conservation and urban sprawl control.
