Abstract

The energy transition has become a critical priority for countries worldwide, necessitated by the urgency of addressing environmental challenges, the depletion of fossil resources, and the need to enable a green economy. Achieving a successful energy transition requires a strategic shift toward reducing the environmental impact of the energy systems and cutting greenhouse gas emissions. In this context, advanced technologies, such as blockchain, offer significant potential to enhance the integration of renewable energy sources globally. Blockchain can play a pivotal role in facilitating a seamless energy transition, particularly in promoting the development of microgrids. This paper explores the substantial advantages and opportunities blockchain brings to the energy sector, highlighting its role in advancing renewable energy adoption. In particular, the peer-to-peer (P2P) hydrogen exchange model is introduced and designed to leverage the unique benefits of blockchain technology to meet the specific needs of the hydrogen market. This approach ensures secure, transparent transactions, fostering trust and efficiency within the sector.
