Conclusion. ABSTRACT Introduction. Haematological abnormalities in new-borns are common and can lead to significant morbidity and mortality. Objective. This study aimed to draw up a profile of the new-born’s blood count while highlighting the different anomalies and their prevalence. Methodology. This was a descriptive cross-sectional study. Prospective and consecutive sampling took place between October 2022 and July 2023, in the maternity and the laboratory of the central hospital and the Social and Health Animation Center at Yaoundé. Included in this study were new-borns whose parents gave their informed consent. Stillbirths and new-borns of parturients with a positive HIV were excluded from the study. 2.5 ml of blood was collected from the umbilical cord in an EDTA tube. A blood count was performed using a Dymind brand blood counter, followed by systematic reading of the blood smear using an Olympius brand microscope. The data obtained were analysed using SPSS 21.0 software. The significance threshold was set at 5%. Results. Of the 200 new-borns collected, 51% were male and 49% female. Anemia was the most common haematological abnormality with a prevalence of 79.5%; 67% of anemias were moderate. An erythroblastosis with a frequency of 51%. Conclusion. The study allowed us to reveal that anaemia remains the main haematological abnormality in the new-born, associated with erythroblastosis. It is advisable to do a systematic blood count on all new-borns.
