The main driver of international interest in green hydrogen is the need to reduce global carbon intensity. Green hydrogen (GH) produces hydrogen from renewable energies with a clean production cycle. Over the last few decades, making this most environmentally friendly fuel type has become the goal of most countries worldwide. Several countries have significant potential for producing green hydrogen: The European Union, Asia-Pacific, the Russian Federation, North and South America, the Middle East, and Africa. This paper aims to highlight the policies and regulations generated to establish specific guidelines and objectives for market players and provide development and risk reduction funding, directly impacting the prospects for green hydrogen production and use. Its importance reflects that green hydrogen is currently the most expensive form, with higher political support generally needed to stimulate investment and progress along the cost-reduction curve to a position competitive with grey hydrogen.
