GEE and R scripts for woody cover mapping and degradation analysis — Toliara II district, southwestern Madagascar (1989–2025)

Abstract

This repository contains the Google Earth Engine (GEE) JavaScript scripts and R scripts used to produce the results of Ramalason et al. (2026). The GEE scripts perform Landsat time series preprocessing, Random Forest woody cover modelling (1989–2025), fire frequency mapping (MODIS MCD64A1 v6.1), and building export (Google Open Buildings v3). The R scripts compute FAO/Puyravaud annual deforestation rates, temporal class proportion analyses, fire regime statistics, and distance gradient analyses. All scripts include inline documentation and reproducible path structures.
