Game theory approaches for Radio Access Technology Selection Algorithm: A Review

Abstract

In wireless communication systems, choosing the right Radio Access Technology (RAT) is essential to maximizing network performance and guaranteeing a flawless user experience. The area of wireless communications for RAT optimization and selection has recently received tremendous attention from researcher community. Thus, selection of RAT has been facing challenges such as user allocation to the most suitable RAT and operator revenue management. To cope with those challenges, techniques based on game theory have come to light as potentially useful resources for developing RAT selection algorithms. This paper emphasizes the possible advantages and solutions of game theory in relation to RAT selection algorithms. We gave the summary of existing works and discussed the application of game theory in relation to RAT selection. In this paper, we identify the main problems in RAT selection algorithms, and we propose a method for solving them using game theory. Finally, implementation of how game theory in future work can improve the decision-making process and increase the efficacy and efficiency of RAT selection algorithms in heterogeneous wireless networks was discussed.
