Friction and Wear Characteristics of Nanostructured Coatings in Tribological Systems

Abstract

With the advent of nanostructured coatings, the study of friction, wear, and lubrication in interacting surfaces—a science known as tribology—has made tremendous strides. An overview of the studies done on the wear and friction properties of these coatings in tribological systems is given in this abstract. The study comprises a detailed investigation of the synthesis procedures, including various sol-gel procedures, chemical vapor deposition, and physical vapor deposition, that are utilized to produce nanostructured coatings. These coatings commonly use materials such as nanocomposites, nanolaminates, and nanostructured ceramics. Furthermore, the influence of environmental factors like temperature and humidity is thought to offer a thorough grasp of the coatings' performance in various operating settings.
