Factors Influencing the Quality of Life in Patients with Lung Cancer

Abstract

<bold>Introduction:</bold> Cancer and its treatment regimen are inmost cases,very burdensome on the patient's life,leading to considerable deterioration in their quality of life,both personally and socially Ourstudy aimed to identify the factors influencing thequality of life in patients followed for pulmonary cancer Methodology We conducted adescriptive study including60patients with lung cancer during the period February2022and June2022 The patient's quality of life was evaluated based on their responses to the questions of the questionnaires(EORTC QLQ-C30)and(EORTC LC-13)which were administered to each patient in the Tunisian dialect by the same physician EORTC approval was obtained to use these questionnaires <bold>Results:</bold> The average age ofour patients was62years There was a significant correlation between the patients education level and the general fatigue score average p=0.001 The average fatigue scores of patients with a university education were significantly higher than those of illiterate patients p=0.001or those with a primary p=0.001or secondary education level p0.010 There was a statistically significant difference in the average cognitive abilities scores between patients with high-risk jobs and other patients p0.022,95%CI[3;38] There was a significant difference in the average cognitive abilities scores between patients who quit smoking at admission and those who did not,with p=0.037,95%CI[0;30] There was a significant correlation between the performance status of patients and the average physical ability score p0.014 <bold>Conclusion:</bold> Optimizing the qualityof life for patients followed for lungcancer is a crucial challenge inthe management of this condition A better understanding of the influencing factors can help improve the situation
