Exploring the Adoption of AI Tools Among PhD Students at Ibn Tofail University

Abstract

This article explores the use of artificial intelligence (AI) tools among doctoral students at Ibn Tofail University, focusing on their perceived impact on research quality and training needs. A quantitative survey of 30 students revealed high AI adoption: 93.3% use ChatGPT, 50% Grammarly, and 20% QuillBot. Despite these figures, all respondents expressed a strong need for structured training to develop digital literacy and responsible usage. While AI tools assist in writing, paraphrasing, and content generation, their potential is limited by ethical concerns and lack of formal guidance. The study highlights the importance of implementing targeted, discipline-specific programs to ensure effective and ethical integration of AI in doctoral education. These findings contribute to the broader discussion on digital transformation in higher education and illustrate how AI is beginning to reshape academic research practices.
