Experimental Investigations on the Influence of Fuel Pressure on Single Cylinder C.I. Engine Fuelled with Different Polanga Biodiesel Blends

Abstract

The fuel properties put great impact on engine performance. Therefore, the adaptation of an alternative fuel to the existing engine may require some of the design modifications in order to have superior or almost identical performance. The present work examines the prospects of calophylluminophyllum based biodiesel blends at various fuel injection pressures. Polanga based biodiesel provides better exhaust emission characteristics and thermal performance closest to that of diesel oil. Higher injection pressure is preferable for Polanga biodiesel due to its higher viscosity. As per thermal performance evaluation, engine operated on B20 blend and higher fuel injector opening pressure 220 bars was closest to that of diesel oil. While engine emission constituents of CO, UHC, and smoke are the least at 220 bars injector, opening pressure improves thermal performance and reduces emissions, without any modifications in single cylinder CI engine.
