Examining IT Decision-Making in Moroccan Companies: Insights into Information Technology Governance in Africa

Abstract

ABSTRACT Information Technology (IT) governance is an integral part of corporate governance. IT governance focuses on aligning IT with business strategy so that the organization can derive value from IT. Most IT governance studies are conducted in developed countries. This article aims to identify and analyze the IT governance decision-making matrix in Morocco’s private sector. The study follows a quantitative approach, relying on a survey questionnaire to understand how Moroccan companies allocate their IT-related decisions. A total of 47 Moroccan organizations participated in this study. The authors found that IT decision-making rights in the sampled Moroccan companies are mostly held by business monarchies and IT monarchies, suggesting a centralized approach to IT decision-making. The unique contribution of this study is its examination of IT governance in a developing African country.
