Evaluation of Brassica Biofumigation Compared to Trichoderma spp. application in Controlling Sesame Root Rot caused by Macrophomena Phaseolina , in vitro.

Abstract

The oilseed plant referred to as sesame (Sesamum indicum L.) has been grown in Egypt since ancient times. Globally, the sesame crop faces the attack of various biotic diseases that may result in reducing the productivity of this crop. Among these maladies, root rot disease caused by Macrophomena phaseolina (M. p.), a highly detrimental illness that impacts sesame crop. To manage sesame root rot in vitro, numerous experiments were conducted in this research; different fungicides, biofumigation, and biocontrol agents were evaluated.A research study was carried out to evaluate the biological agents viz (Trichoderma viride, T. hamatum, T. harizianum), chemical control (Double 56% WP), and three bio fumigations plants ,(Cabbage , Salad rocket and Canola) at rates 10, and 20 gm against M. phaseolina on sesame and their effect on the growth of M. phaseolina mycelial, in vitro.Fungicides, biofumigants, and biocontrol agents treatments significantly reduced M.p. development as compared to the control. The results of all these treatments showed that, among the biofumigation treatments, rocket fresh materials at 10 gm were the most effective and has demonstrated the largest colony reduction (82.566%), whereas Double was the most effective treatment against M.p. and has reduced the mycelial growth (92.105%) and achieved maximum control. The best biocontrol agent for sesame root rot, on the other hand, was Trichoderma viride.
